Implant Options

Description

When patients choose to pursue breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Lista will work with them to determine which type of implant to use, and whether to position the implant above or behind the pectoral muscle. Because saline and cohesive gel implants each offer their own benefits, it is important to determine which option is best suited to a patient's individual needs.

DR. FRANK LISTA: The basic choice in choosing an implant is first of all the size of course and we talked about that being natural being the most important thing. But then the other thing is position of the implant above or behind the muscle and then what kind of implant? Saline or cohesive gel and if you have cohesive jell you can have round, textured, form stable; none form stable so it is a pretty complicated choice. It is hard for a patient to make that decision. There is a big misconception out there that there are certain implants better than other implants. That is just not true. There are certain implants that are better than other implants in specific patients so I may say to a patient based on the look of your breast you need this implant and then they go out and tell the rest of the world that Dr. Lista told them that that implant is best. Yes in you. So choosing the right implant and the placement is probably the most important part of the consultation process. It is really important for patients to not have a preconception in advance. I mean you can have sort of an idea and often the idea can be right but it’s really important to for the patient to discuss their expectations and to discuss with the surgeon what implants right for them and what position is right for them.
