Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

DR. FRANK LISTA: Well, rhinoplasty is one of the most challenging operations in plastic surgery. Um, you know, rhinoplasty really got started in the 60s and 70s, and at that time plastic surgeons were just taking everything away and giving everyone a cute little button up, turned up nose. You could walk into a restaurant and pick all the rhinoplasties just by pointing them out because they all looked the same. The key now, is to keep the natural characteristic of the nose. So an Italian person should stay looking Italian; an Asian should stay looking Asian; a Indian should stay looking Indian. But what you’re trying to do is keep the nose looking the same, but just without the bump or without the round tip. And so the challenge is to maintain the characteristic of the person and their ethnic background, improve the nose, but not change it completely.
